Every Southern Gospel
Music group, whether
John Sitzler is without a doubt one of the most powerful lead
singers in Gospel music today! Once you meet John and hear
him sing, whether it's an old Hymn of the church, a classic
quartet number or one of our original tunes, you won't need a
second introduction from that point on. The intensity and
conviction with which he delivers the gospel message is truly
unforgettable.
John sang with the second generation Hymnsmen Quartet as
well as several nationally known groups such as The Singing
Ambassadors and Appointed.
He and his wife Julie, make their home on the family farm in
Madisonville, Tennessee with their three boys and daughter.

Greg Young is the bass guitarist for
the band. Having played for the group
in earlier years, it was an easy choice
to ask him to re-join the group when
the position became open. Greg's
calm temperament is a welcome
addition to the challenges that traveling
together can sometimes bring.
He has a great ear for vocal parts and
can fill in from time on baritone. He
also is the principal bus driver for the
Quartet and makes his home in
Cleveland, TN,
About Us
Celebrating 50 Years in Gospel Music

Very few Gospel groups travel today with a full band, and
that may have something to do with the excitement you can
sense in the audience wherever the Hymnsmen Band
steps on stage. One of the requirements that Calvin Boyd
had almost 50 years ago when he formed the group, was to
have great musicians to accompany the Quartet. Today's
lineup is no deviation from that standard. From different
backgrounds, different churches and even different cities
these musicians come together and blend their talents and
abilities and the result is nothing short of outstanding.
Chris Boyd, Calvin's grandson, fills the duties of drummer
and has done so since he began with the Quartet some 26
years ago at nine years of age. Obviously a crowd favorite
then, he still is known as one of the most popular figures in
the group. Chris is a 3rd generation Hymnsmen, and is
known throughout the Southeast as a perfectionist in
percussion.
Tim Williamson handles keyboards for the band. Tim
began playing at the tender age of eight and has played for
various groups and churches
over the years. He also
currently serves as the Music
Director for Grace
Community Church in
Crossville, TN.
Don Davis plays lead
guitar for the Hymnsmen
Band. Originally from Canton,
IL he has spent the better
part of his life in Tennesse
and now makes his home in
Tellico Plains. Don is
married and has three
children and is a member of
Woodward Ave Church of
God in Athens, TN. A very
gifted instrumentalist, Don
played secular music for
many years before finding the
joy that comes from using his
talents in Gospel Music.
The Voices
G ary Clark is the newest member of the group, but he
certainly isn't new to Gospel Music. He began his full time music
stint as a teenager with the Interstate Quartet. This regional
favorite shared many dates with the Inspirations during that time.
Gary later played or sang with other groups such as the
Scenicland Boys out of Chattanooga. He now sings the baritone
part when he's not at his local church, Washington Avenue
Baptist in Cleveland. His warm voice and professional stage
presence make him a welcome addition to the group.
skill and no one does a better job than Roy Wilson. In
addition to that job, he also handles the bass part for the
Hymnsmen as well as sharing the MC tasks. Although he's
new to the bass part, Roy does a superb job. Before joining
the Hymnsmen, Roy sang several years ago with both the
Dominion Quartet and the Interstate Quartet. He and his
wife, Brenda live in Niota, Tennessee and attend the Union
McMinn Baptist Church where Roy plays the bass guitar.
trio or quartet, simply has to have someone to sing those
high and almost unreachable notes that no one else
wants to tackle. Tony Arp certainly handles those 1st
tenor responsibilities in a most capable manner. His
vocal experience includes time with The Impacts from
Chattanooga and was 1st tenor with the nationally
recognized group, Elmer Cole and The Tennesseans. You
may remember several of Elmer's contributions to Gospel
music, the most notable which he wrote was the Classic
"Ten Thousand Years". For the past 18 years, Tony has
been an active member of the choir at his home church,
Waterville Baptist in Cleveland, Tennessee. He and his
wife Marcella have two children and one grandson,
Gideon.
